Carbon dioxide is not the enemy. It is part of the cycle of life. How we care for it is what matters’
- Carbon Dioxide The Cycle of Life.
- Plants grow by using sunlight to change carbon dioxide and water to food. We as well as other animals eat plants as our food. Even when we eat meat we are indirectly eating plants. The earth has to keep us warm so it has a blanket of carbon dioxide which is part of the atmosphere. More carbon dioxide makes a thicker blanket and less carbon dioxide makes a thinner blanket. As humans we make tools.
- We need tools such as household appliances and vehicles because we cannot eat some of the food raw and we could not reach many places on foot. We get energy for our tools from that stored on the surface and below ground as fossils. In using fossils we release carbon dioxide that makes the earth’s blanket thicker.
- When the earth is warmer it makes for angry storms. Storms enable the earth to carry heat to cooler places in the same way as we cool our bodies. If there is too much heat the storms just run more wildly because there is a lot to do. Even when we use wind and water for energy our intention is often to do things that lead to carbon dioxide accumulating in the atmosphere. We could not grow crops and build roads and houses without removing trees. Those trees eventually become carbon dioxide storage.
- It is time to help the forests and oceans to store more carbon dioxide so the blanket is not too thick. We know how to do that with fewer trees while looking out for other species. We also know how to care and share amongst ourselves so that a little goes a long way.
- Carbon dioxide is not the enemy. We just seem to not care for it even though it is part of the cycle of life.
